Sometimes I draw. I'm not very good but I like the meditative aspect of drawing. Here are a few cartoon panels of a character I call "That Guy" who is a musician dealing with wise-guy drunk people and 'gig-issues'.
During the summer of the first quarantine (2020), I got inspired by a story on CBS Sunday Morning that talked about how they acquire the sun logos that appear on the show. I thought it would be fun to try to draw a few of my own.
I learned about this form of 'meditation' at a talk given at Camp Washington (the retreat camp for the Connecticut Episcopal Diocese). I came away from the talk with a piece of paper that had words on it that I drew in various ways: upside down, big, small in curves, etc... As I was drawing the words, I meditated on them and prayed and drew some more until I filled the page. It felt like a walking meditation in the sense that it had motion and direction, but not to any real purpose other than to think about the words I chose to draw.
Here's how a word meditation unfolds. Thanks to Tuck and Patti for the music!
